Conservation and restoration of Hicks Farm Wood
Most of our restoration and conservation activities are dependent on the season, and the needs of the part of the site being worked on. However, they will include hedge pruning, scrub thinning and pruning, grassland maintenance and surveying species. We know that working in the fresh air in a green space positively enhances mood, and volunteers also have the satisfaction of seeing how work on the site is making a lot of difference to the wildlife, increasing both species numbers and complexity.
There may be health benefits too; “scrub bashing” is a very good way of relieving stress and getting some exercise in the winter, whilst scything is a very relaxing summer activity.
No experience is necessary for most of the activities and volunteering is a good way to learn new skills and meet new people.
Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. We have insurance for our volunteers, but they would need to become members (this is free).Read more
