We have several new opportunities to work with us at the Chilterns Conservation Board – as a board member, staff member or volunteer.
Are you enthusiastic about conserving protected landscapes? Would you like to help widen access to these areas to more diverse groups in society? If the answer is yes, then why not apply for a position on our board? This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the Chilterns AONB’s future at a pivotal time for landscapes, nature & people. Those from BAME backgrounds, those with disabilities and younger candidates are encouraged to apply.
You can find out about us, what we do and who is on our Board here.
We’ve many exciting projects running and two of them are also recruiting!
Our “Mend the Gap” programme, jointly with North Wessex Downs AONB aims to directly mitigate reduce the harm done to the AONBs by the electrification of the Great Western mainline. Mitigation projects will soften the visual impact of the electrification by screening, masking, distracting from or breaking up views of the gantries and other electrification equipment. The Mend the Gap Mitigation Projects Officer will build relationships with local landowners and land managers to develop and implement a suite of tree planting, hedgerow restoration and habitat enhancement schemes that will contribute towards reducing the visual impact of the electrification equipment.
We’re also looking for a Development Officer for “Chalkscapes” an exciting new partnership project in the northern part of the Chilterns AONB. Made possible by National Lottery players, the project aims to undertake landscape-scale conservation across 5 focus areas across the project area – 172 km2 of protected landscape , whilst inspiring communities to learn about, explore and take action for their local landscapes.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Development Manager to develop the 5-year project to be submitted for National Lottery Heritage funding in late 2024. If the bid is successful, there may be an opportunity for a 5-year extension in order for the post holder to move into the delivery phase of the project.
We are looking for someone who will create long lasting impact through building commitment to and enthusiasm for a landscape scale conservation approach across the area.
Of course we couldn’t do what we do without our amazing volunteers. We have opportunities for office or field based volunteers, and most of our projects are interested in hearing from volunteers too! Find out more about volunteering with us.
