Join the Upper Thames Branch of Butterfly Conservation on a trip to Holtspur Bottom: the only Butterfly Conservation Nature Reserve in the UTB area. A valley-bottom chalk grassland site, showing how good management can enhance butterfly populations.
We will explore the two main fields, searching for a variety of butterflies and other wildlife. Target species: Small Blue and other summer butterflies.
Accessibility – quite a walk if you park in the ‘village’. Fairly steep slopes, mainly grassy paths.
Meet at the Reserve Entrance. There is limited parking inside the entrance gate and under the railway bridge.From the A40 roundabout, follow Holtspur Top Lane for one mile. Turn sharp left (at the bottom of the hill) into Riding Lane and follow it half a mile to the reserve. Please note the reserve gate is only unlocked for events.
