Join the Upper Thames Branch of Butterfly Conservation on a trip to West Wycombe Estate’s Butler’s Hangings SSSI: overlooking Slough Bottom in the heart of the Chilterns, it is an area of steep chalk downland, below beech woodland.
After meeting in the NT car park, we will walk through the woods, along the ridge, until we arrive at Butler’s Hangings. A walk of about 4km in total. Here we will seek a variety of early-summer butterflies and other wildlife: Target species: Marbled White and, hopefully, Dark Green Fritillary.
Accessibility – a long(ish) walk to the site. Steep and rough in places.
Meet at the south end of the National Trust car park on top of West Wycombe Hill. Please note that it is not possible to park on the road directly below Butler’s Hangings.
