Farming Engagement Officer

Job title:                  Farming Engagement Officer                                

Location:                 Based at CCB Offices, Chinnor (Covid dependent)

                                  with flexibility for home working. 

Salary:                      £32,000 - £34,000 per annum (pro rata)

Hours:                      37.5 hours per week – fixed term contract to 31 March 2024    

                                  We are happy to consider part-time or job share proposals.

Reports to:              Countryside Officer  

Responsible for:    Admin Support officer (Farming in Protected Landscapes) 

                                  Contracts and consultants.     

About this role

We are looking for a new member of our team to lead the delivery of the Farming in Protected Landscapes programme for the Chilterns Conservation Board and provide support to the Local Assessment Panel.

This is an exciting time to join the team as we scale up our support for farming, nature’s recovery, and nature-based solutions across the AONB.  

This is a varied role working with farmers and land managers across the AONB to encourage and support high quality applications that deliver against programme outcomes.  You will provide advice and guidance to applicants and promote farmer led approaches including support for farmer clusters. You will work closely with the Local Assessment Panel and oversee the admin support for the programme.  


About you 

You will be an excellent communicator, able to engage with, inspire and build relationships with farmers and other land managers across the Chilterns.  You will have good negotiation skills and an ability develop strong partnerships and collaboration. 

You will have experience of working with farmers and land managers, a good knowledge of conservation/ land management and access issues and familiarity with current agri-environment schemes and farming issues. 


About the Farming in Protected Landscapes Programme 

Farming in Protected Landscapes is a three-year programme created by Defra and delivered by AONB and National Park teams across the country.  The objectives of the programme are to support farmers and other land managers to deliver more for: 

  • Climate – supporting the delivery of net zero through nature and nature-based solutions to help communities mitigate and adapt to climate change.
  • Nature – supporting the delivery of the Nature Recovery Network and achieving the Government’s commitment to protect 30% of land by 2030.
  • People – providing a natural health service that will improve the nation’s public health and wellbeing through increased access to nature across all parts of society, as part of our green recovery
  • Place – supporting these landscapes as centres of excellence and green innovation that are flourishing places to live and work, each with a strong identity and cultural heritage, and high recognition as attractive visitor destinations.
