Old Tom

Old Tom - photo by Mrs C Hughes

With a girth of more than 4 metres this oak stands out in the small woodland in which it is found.

In recent years, it was named "Old Tom" by a local resident and the name has caught on amongst other regular visitors of the wood.

In additon to receiving a name, Old Tom also receives special treatment at Christmas when a large ribbon is tied around the trunk.

Old Tom inspired this pencil drawing, entered into the 2008 Special Woods Art Competition:

'The Old Oak Tree' by Alice Daish

Do let us know if you know anymore about Old Tom or have a photo of him dressed up in his ribbon!
