The Trippy tree in Reading takes the name from the hippies who used to smoke dope in the shade of its branches. Perhaps it is because of this it refuses to die!
This 150 year old Indian Bean Tree (Catalpa bignonioides) was declared dead by tree experts after the removal of dangerous branches. Confident of the ancient tree's demise, a replacement, donated by Berkshire's Townswomen's Guild, was planted beside it. Amazingly, despite heavy pruning, the tree defied predictions and burst back into leaf.
