Countryside and picnic sites

Coombe Hill and Low Scrubs

These National Trust sites offer a mix of woodland and grasslands with extensive views and great natural history interest. Coombe Hill is the highest point in the Chilterns.

Low scrubs is a unique woodland with a fascinating atmosphere. The beech trees here were coppiced for firewood for centuries. This practice no longer takes place and as a result the wood is very dark and mysterious, quite different to other beech forests.

Coombe Hill is one of the highest point in the Chilterns and carries a monument to soldiers who fell during the Boer War.
