Asymmetric Avenue

Asymmetric Avenue - photograph by Mr HazelwoodAsymmetric Avenue - photograph by Mr Hazelwood

This avenue of pine trees in Harpenden provides a striking example of the difference a little care and attention makes. Whilst the trees on one side of the road have been carefully maintained, on the other side they are covered with ivy, leading to a huge difference in form.

Despite lacking any symmetry these trees have nevertheless won a place in the heart of local resident Mr Hazelwood, who was inspired to paint the avenue.
