This beech is baring all - its roots are showing!
The root-plate of this tree - the large, flat, mat of roots visible in the photograph, may have become exposed due to bank erosion. Despite this, the tree continues to cling to the bank of Aldridge's Dell.
Beech trees are famous for their shallow root systems but they are not usually this visible unless the tree has sucumbed to the wind.
