Seven Sisters

Coppiced sweet chestnut - photo by June Kingsbury, project volunteer

This tree was felled in 1914 when the area was used by training troops in preparation for the fighting on the continent.  Since then this Sweet Chestnut has grown to a massive size - dwarfing June and her dog Sam in this photo.

Special tree volunteer and local artist June Kingsbury has fond memories of climbing in the tree over 30 years ago when she and her friends christened this landmark tree which is one of the largest in the wood.

As well as being the scene of fond childhood memories, this tree has also provided June with artistic inspiration and she entered this photograph in the Special Woods Art Competition in 2008:
