Checkendon

Copper Beech - photo by David Watson, project volunteer

This fine copper beech tree next to Checkendon church was planted in 1952 to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's accession. The bench was added in 1977 to celebrate her Silver Jubilee.

Can you remember the occasion?  Or do you have earlier photos of the tree?  If so, get in touch.

An impressive collection of yews lines the drive to Checkendon Court. Planted in 1904, these 21 beautifully-clipped yew trees can be seen from the gate by the church.
