This giant cherry tree measures nearly 4 metres around its girth at 1½ metres from the ground. This remarkable size has led the age of the tree to be estimated at about 400 - 420 years old.
The tree is found in a private garden on Wheeler End Common, which belongs to the Dashwood Estate. The tree may be a relic of a mixed orchard, as a very old fig and pear tree are nearby in an area which was once a farm.
