The large tree known as Waller’s Oak at Coleshill has now gone.
This photograph taken in 1887 was sent to us courtesy of Amersham Museum.
It is said that the poet and politician Edmund Waller (1605-1687) composed some of his verses on a bench built into this hollow tree, some two hundred years before this photo was taken.
