Walks on commons near Great Missenden

 

9.5 mile circular walk from Great Missenden: follow the route along the Misbourne Valley and up to Little Hampden Common, along the Chiltern Way through farmland and woodland to Great Hampden Common and back to Great Missenden through the village of Prestwood and Angling Spring Wood.

9 mile circular walk from Wendover: from the centre of Wendover walk west at the foot of the Chilterns scarp before climbing up through attractive parkland and crossing through the Chequers estate. Continue to Little Hampden Common and return to Wendover through woodland and farmland.

Full 17 mile circular walk: put the 2 loops above together to create a 17 mile circular walk which can be started from Great Missenden or Wendover.

Access

There are some stiles on the walks, and some sections of path which are steep or can be muddy. On Great Hampden Common a compass may be useful as there are a number of unmarked paths.

Facilities

Both Great Missenden and Wendover have cafes and pubs, shops, public toilets, railway stations and car parks. There are also some pubs along the walks. 

How to get there

Great Missenden and Wendover railway stations are on the Chiltern Railways line from London Marylebone to Aylesbury.
