Peter Martin
Nominated by: Buckinghamshire Council
I was born in North London and went to school there. After school I studied business studies and marketing.
My career was in retail mostly as a food buyer which involved quite a lot of travel visiting farms, manufacturers and processers as well as budgeting marketing and of course tasting.
I am married and my partner Vanessa is an accountant. We initially lived in North London but wanted many of the things that attract people to Buckinghamshire and moved into the Chilterns and have lived here for over 30 years now.
When I retired, I took two years out to study Horticulture a lifelong interest. This was really enjoyable, but I got involved in the Local community as a parish councillor and was then persuaded to stand for the District Council and was elected. Within a year I was on the Councils cabinet and this together with other Community involvement took up my time.
I then stepped up to the County Council and more recently to the new Buckinghamshire Council and am now Deputy Cabinet member for transport with responsibility for our work on East West Rail and HS2.
These projects are creating problems in Buckinghamshire, and they take up almost all the working week.
I also chair the Missendens Community Board working with the Community to improve things in our area.
