Launch of Little Marlow/Bourne End Walk
Story date: 26/08/2005

The rain did not deter a group of hardy walkers, including local councillors and representatives from conservation organisations in the Chilterns, from gathering in Little Marlow to launch the new Bourne End/Little Marlow walk on Wednesday 24th August. The walk was officially launched by Sir John Johnson, chair of the Chilterns Conservation Board.

The new leaflet sets out two circular walks starting from Bourne End Station; a gentle and level 3 mile walk free of stiles, and a more challenging 6 mile walk with a good climb. Both walks follow the River Thames and include a stretch of the Spade Oak Lake, previously gravel pits and now a haven for birdlife. The longer walk continues up to Bloom Wood, rising 100m to give extensive views back across the Thames Valley.

Both walks offer wonderful views, a variety of scenery and choice of refreshment stops along the way. The leaflet contains interesting snippets of local information and contact details for local attractions and visitor information.

The Chilterns Conservation Board are keen to promote walking as a sustainable means of encouraging people to enjoy the countryside, healthy lifestyles and at the same time bringing business to the local economy. Annette Venters, Strategic Access Officer at the Chilterns Conservation Board says “Bourne End is an excellent starting point for a wide range of walks and we hope the new Bourne End/Little Marlow Walk will encourage people to get out and explore this beautiful area”.
