Volunteers from the Woodcote Conservation Group manage the two ponds. In the last few years, willows had taken root in the upper pond making management by hand difficult so the Chilterns Commons Project was asked to help.
Thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery, contractors have removed the willows and taken away some of the silt which had accumulated. Although the result looks muddy now, the work has increased the amount of open water which will benefit the rare plants that grow in the pond and the newts which breed in the pond each spring.
