The Chilterns AONB offers a huge variety of learning opportunities across a range of curriculum areas including geography, science, maths, English, history, art and P.E. On this page you can find some useful learning resources provided by the Chilterns Conservation Board.

Learning outside the classroom
Many different organisations provide curriculum-linked activities and courses in the Chilterns countryside. A directory listing 25 of these outdoor learning providers is available. The directory also includes useful facts about the wildlife, landscape, history and cultural heritage of the Chilterns AONB. Printed copies are available at £5.00 each or download the complete directory below for free.

Red kites
Red kites are a popular and much-loved feature of the Chilterns that make an ideal topic for a school project. The Red Kites in the Chilterns Education Resource Pack is crammed full of useful information and activity ideas for Key Stages 2 and 3 (ages 7-14). Download a copy below.

Chalk streams
The Chilterns Chalk Streams Project has produced an education pack for schools on the special features, wildlife and history of Chilterns chalk streams. It is aimed at Key Stages 2 and 3 (ages 7-14). The pack consists of a CD ROM and booklet and is available free to schools and other education facilities. Please use the contact details on the right to request a copy.

Woodlands
If you're interested in the wildlife or history of Chilterns woodlands, visit the Woodland Web section of this website. Here there are interactive pages with lots of information on how people have used the woods over the centuries and the wildlife that can be found in each season. Marvellous illustrations, video and audio clips bring the Chiltern beechwoods to life.
