This big old oak tree stands on the verge of a residential street in Great Offley. It is a local landmark and is much loved by the local children. The tree has a girth of nearly 6m and it took 10 children to circle it in a big hug!
The trunk is partly hollow which makes the oak a great mini-beast hotel, providing nooks and crannies for lots of insects, places for birds to nest and bats to roost.
Like the Domesday Oak in Kings Walden Park, this ancient veteran is a remnant of an historic landscape, probably starting its life in a former hedgerow.
