Local climbing enthusiast, Michael, is always on the look-out for something new to climb, in the Chilterns and beyond.
In 2000, he spotted some magnificient giant redwoods on the roadside and decided they were his next challenge. He said:
"These three huge trees come into view as you drive around the corner. The trunks erupt from the undergrowth and give an impression of how they must look in their native forest in California."
Michael measured the tallest tree using the most reliable method for measuring tree height - using a tape measure from tip to base! In 2008, he measured it again at 39.20 metres making it the tallest tree in the Chilterns with a growth rate of 15 cm a year.
