In 1998 the Wendover Evening WI group marked the coming millennium by planting an oak tree for the future. It was planted in November as part of National Tree Week by Anne Pinnell, the group president, and councillor John Firmin.
Long time WI member Patricia Lovell lives near the oak tree, which stands on the road verge, and keeps a regular watch over it.
This is great news as all too often trees are planted to commemorate an event and then never weeded or cared for again. Patricia's tender loving care must have worked as the tree still stands, has its plaque and has grown to nearly 5 metres.
