Here you can find information on previous winners of The Chilterns Awards and why the judges thought they were worthy of recognition.
2009
The Chilterns Environment Award
The overall winner was Offley Hoo Farm, near Hitchin, owned by Pilkington Farms and managed by Jon Birchall. A great deal of conservation
work is being carried out on this commercial farm, helped by advice from Herts County Council's Countryside Management Service.
A Highly Commended Award went to Withymead Nature Reserve, owned by the Anne Carpmael Charitable Trust, near Goring-on-Thames.
The Chilterns Enjoyment and Understanding Award
The overall winner was the Box Moor Trust's Forest School, near Hemel Hempstead. This innovative project is encouraging young children to
discover and be inspired by the natural environment.
Two Highly Commended Awards were also given out: one to the Friends of Naphill Common, a conservation group near High Wycombe and one to
Wren Davis Ltd of Collings Hanger Farm in Prestwood for running public and school farm visits.
The Chilterns Outstanding People Award
Virginia Deradour of Collings Hanger Farm in Prestwood was a worthy overall winner of this award for her great passion and enthusiasm in
educating the public about farming.
A Highly Commended Award went to Tom Stevenson of Benson, Oxfordshire, for his many voluntary activities which include helping to look
after Ewelme Watercress Beds and nature reserve, leading Benson Environmental Survey Team and providing advice to Benson Parish Council on
conservation matters.
